In the rolling, sun-drenched hills of Rheinhessen, Weingut Wittmann crafts this expressive Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris) with the same biodynamic precision that defines their legendary Rieslings. While Riesling often commands the spotlight, the Burgunder family has a deep, historic connection to the region's limestone-rich soils. This estate bottling captures the essence of Westhofen's unique terroir, where ancient coral reefs left behind calcium-rich earth. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in traditional large oak casks in the estate's historic 19th-century cellar, this wine avoids the heavy, flabby characteristics often associated with the grape. Instead, it reveals a vibrant, textured, and deeply mineral profile, celebrating the grape's historical journey from its French origins to its beloved status in German viticulture.

Weingut Wittmann har rødder i Westhofen helt tilbage til 1663 og regnes i dag blandt Tysklands mest indflydelsesrige pionerer inden for økologisk og biodynamisk vinbrug i Wonnegau-området i Rheinhessen. Under visionær ledelse af Philipp Wittmann og hans familie omlagde vinhuset til økologisk dyrkning i 1990 og opnåede fuld biodynamisk certificering i 2004. Wittmanns filosofi bygger på kompromisløs pleje af vinmarkerne, spontangæring med det naturlige gær og lagring på traditionelle, neutrale egetræsfade for at give det reneste udtryk for det kalkrige terroir på legendariske VDP.Grosse Lage-marker som Morstein, Kirchspiel, Aulerde og Brunnenhäuschen. Vingården er verdensberømt for sine skelsættende tørre Grosses Gewächs-Rieslinger, der brillerer med krystalklar præcision, spændstighed og kalket mineralitet, men mestrer i lige så høj grad exceptionelle ædelsøde botrytis-vine samt elegante Pinot Noir-vine.
