While Weingut Wittmann is globally renowned for its legendary dry Rieslings, their mastery extends beautifully to the red spectrum with this Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) from the limestone-rich soils of Gundersheim. The village of Gundersheim, neighboring Westhofen, features unique terroir characterized by dense limestone and clay, which imparts a distinct mineral tension and vibrant acidity to the Pinot Noir vines. Historically, Spätburgunder was brought to Germany by Cistercian monks in the 12th century, and Wittmann honors this legacy through meticulous biodynamic farming. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and matured in traditional oak casks. This Erste Lage (Premier Cru) level village wine showcases a refined harmony of bright red berry fruit, subtle forest floor notes, and a structured, chalky minerality that reflects the ancient limestone soils of the Rheinhessen.

Weingut Wittmann har rødder i Westhofen helt tilbage til 1663 og regnes i dag blandt Tysklands mest indflydelsesrige pionerer inden for økologisk og biodynamisk vinbrug i Wonnegau-området i Rheinhessen. Under visionær ledelse af Philipp Wittmann og hans familie omlagde vinhuset til økologisk dyrkning i 1990 og opnåede fuld biodynamisk certificering i 2004. Wittmanns filosofi bygger på kompromisløs pleje af vinmarkerne, spontangæring med det naturlige gær og lagring på traditionelle, neutrale egetræsfade for at give det reneste udtryk for det kalkrige terroir på legendariske VDP.Grosse Lage-marker som Morstein, Kirchspiel, Aulerde og Brunnenhäuschen. Vingården er verdensberømt for sine skelsættende tørre Grosses Gewächs-Rieslinger, der brillerer med krystalklar præcision, spændstighed og kalket mineralitet, men mestrer i lige så høj grad exceptionelle ædelsøde botrytis-vine samt elegante Pinot Noir-vine.
