The Morstein is Westhofen’s oldest and most revered single vineyard, with historical records of its excellence dating back to 1282. Situated on a south-facing slope at an elevation of up to 280 meters, its unique terroir is defined by heavy clay marl soils strewn with limestone debris, resting upon a deep, water-active limestone massif. While Wittmann is celebrated for dry expressions, their Riesling Spätlese from this legendary site is a masterclass in the interplay of sweetness and structure. Crafted using biodynamic estate fruit, fermented with native yeasts, and matured in traditional large oak casks, this wine captures the intense mineral drive of the Morstein. It delivers a striking tension where luscious stone fruit sweetness is perfectly counterbalanced by a vibrant, chalky acidity and a deep, saline finish.

Weingut Wittmann har rødder i Westhofen helt tilbage til 1663 og regnes i dag blandt Tysklands mest indflydelsesrige pionerer inden for økologisk og biodynamisk vinbrug i Wonnegau-området i Rheinhessen. Under visionær ledelse af Philipp Wittmann og hans familie omlagde vinhuset til økologisk dyrkning i 1990 og opnåede fuld biodynamisk certificering i 2004. Wittmanns filosofi bygger på kompromisløs pleje af vinmarkerne, spontangæring med det naturlige gær og lagring på traditionelle, neutrale egetræsfade for at give det reneste udtryk for det kalkrige terroir på legendariske VDP.Grosse Lage-marker som Morstein, Kirchspiel, Aulerde og Brunnenhäuschen. Vingården er verdensberømt for sine skelsættende tørre Grosses Gewächs-Rieslinger, der brillerer med krystalklar præcision, spændstighed og kalket mineralitet, men mestrer i lige så høj grad exceptionelle ædelsøde botrytis-vine samt elegante Pinot Noir-vine.
