by Yamazaki (Suntory)
Other Spirit Vintage 📍 Japan

⏳ Drinking Window & Cellar Guidance

Bottled at peak maturity in 2025 after 28 years of cask aging, this exceptional single malt is ready to be savored immediately. Unlike wine, spirits do not mature further in the bottle, but this pristine liquid will easily retain its magnificent character for several decades (2025–2055 and beyond) if stored upright in a cool, dark place.

🍽️ Culinary Pairings

Seared Wagyu beef with a light soy glaze, rich grilled eel (unagi kabayaki), and premium dark chocolate or artisanal dried figs.

✨ Technical Specifications

Hailing from Japan's oldest commercial distillery founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, the Yamazaki Single Malt 'En' Label represents a masterclass in Japanese whisky-making. Distilled in 1997 and matured until its bottling in 2025, this ultra-rare single malt spent nearly three decades resting in the unique microclimate of Yamazaki, where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers converge to create a humid, misty atmosphere ideal for cask aging. Utilizing pure mineral-rich water from the foot of Mt. Tennozan—the same water praised by legendary tea master Sen no Rikyu—this expression showcases Yamazaki's hallmark complexity. The long maturation in select casks, potentially including rare Japanese Mizunara oak, imparts a profound profile of sandalwood incense, dried dark fruits, and deep, resonant spice.

🍾 About the Producer

Established in 1923 by Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii, the Yamazaki Distillery stands at the foot of Mount Tennozan in Shimamoto, Osaka, as Japan's pioneering commercial malt whisky distillery. Situated where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers converge, the site was specifically selected for its exceptionally soft, pristine water and misty, humid microclimate that provides optimal conditions for barrel maturation. Yamazaki is renowned for its versatile production methodology, deploying washbacks of both wood and stainless steel, uniquely shaped copper pot stills, and a diverse cask regime featuring Japanese Mizunara oak, American oak, and Spanish ex-sherry butts. The distillery is celebrated globally for its layered, multi-dimensional single malt whiskies, most famously its flagship 12- and 18-Year-Old expressions characterized by complex notes of tropical fruit, sandalwood, and delicate spice.
