by Yamazaki (Suntory)
Other Spirit Vintage 📍 Japan

⏳ Drinking Window & Cellar Guidance

As a premium distilled spirit, this single malt does not age further in the bottle and is ready to enjoy immediately. It will remain in pristine condition for decades if stored upright and away from direct light, though it is best consumed within 1 to 2 years once opened to preserve its delicate aromatic complexity.

🍽️ Culinary Pairings

Rich, umami-forward dishes like slow-braised pork belly, high-quality dark chocolate with sea salt, or traditional roasted duck breast.

✨ Technical Specifications

Yamazaki, Japan's pioneer distillery founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, lies at the intersection of three rivers near Kyoto, where a misty, humid climate provides the ideal conditions for spirit maturation. The Tsukuriwake philosophy of diversity in whisky-making is epitomized in this rare 2022 bottling, which showcases Yamazaki's legendary mastery of Mizunara (Japanese oak). Mizunara is notoriously difficult to cooper due to its porous nature and twisting grain, requiring trees to be at least 200 years old before harvesting. This scarce wood imparts a deeply spiritual, ethereal character to the single malt, yielding signature notes of aromatic sandalwood, temple incense, coconut, and subtle Japanese spices that have come to define the pinnacle of Japanese whisky craftsmanship.

🍾 About the Producer

Established in 1923 by Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii, the Yamazaki Distillery stands at the foot of Mount Tennozan in Shimamoto, Osaka, as Japan's pioneering commercial malt whisky distillery. Situated where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers converge, the site was specifically selected for its exceptionally soft, pristine water and misty, humid microclimate that provides optimal conditions for barrel maturation. Yamazaki is renowned for its versatile production methodology, deploying washbacks of both wood and stainless steel, uniquely shaped copper pot stills, and a diverse cask regime featuring Japanese Mizunara oak, American oak, and Spanish ex-sherry butts. The distillery is celebrated globally for its layered, multi-dimensional single malt whiskies, most famously its flagship 12- and 18-Year-Old expressions characterized by complex notes of tropical fruit, sandalwood, and delicate spice.
