Nestled at the foot of Mount Tennozan where three rivers meet, the Yamazaki Distillery was established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, marking the birth of Japanese whisky. This exceptional 18-year-old single malt showcases the legendary Mizunara oak (Quercus crispula), a native Japanese wood that is notoriously difficult to cooper due to its porous nature and irregular growth. During World War II, when importing European and American casks was impossible, Suntory's artisans turned to Mizunara out of necessity, accidentally discovering a profound maturation profile. This 2024 bottling represents decades of patience; the porous wood imparts a highly distinctive, ethereal character reminiscent of temple incense, sandalwood, coconut, and exotic spices, making it a masterpiece of Japanese blending and craftsmanship.

Established in 1923 by Suntory founder Shinjiro Torii, the Yamazaki Distillery stands at the foot of Mount Tennozan in Shimamoto, Osaka, as Japan's pioneering commercial malt whisky distillery. Situated where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers converge, the site was specifically selected for its exceptionally soft, pristine water and misty, humid microclimate that provides optimal conditions for barrel maturation.
