Perched on the iconic, sun-drenched hill of Sant'Ambrogio in the heart of Valpolicella Classico, the La Grola vineyard is steeped in local legend. According to Venetian folklore, the 'grola'—a black crow—found sanctuary in these ancient vines, symbolizing the deep fertility of the land. In 1979, Giovanni Allegrini revolutionized Valpolicella viticulture by purchasing this historic site and introducing high-density planting. This landmark red wine is primarily crafted from Corvina Veronese, supported by the rare, structured ancient grape Oseleta. Grown on steep, chalky, clay-rich soils, the grapes benefit from a unique microclimate influenced by nearby Lake Garda. Unlike the dried-grape style of Amarone, La Grola is vinified from fresh grapes, capturing an intense, elegant expression of dark wild berries, black pepper, and refined minerality, aged for over a year in French oak barriques to achieve a harmonious, velvety structure.
