2027 - 2045

๐Ÿท Vintage Profile

The 2020 growing season in San Casciano in Val di Pesa opened with a mild, dry winter and moderate spring rains that ensured steady budbreak and flowering. Summer delivered sustained heat without extreme hydric stress, followed by timely late-August showers and wide diurnal shifts that preserved vibrant natural acidity while coaxing optimal phenolic maturity from both the Sangiovese and the Cabernet parcels. The resulting wine is marked by dense, fine-grained tannins, fresh aromatic lift, and lower relative extraction than the preceding 2019 vintage. Universally regarded as an exceptionally harmonious, classic vintage, it is entering the early stages of its primary drinking window in 2026 and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 15 to 20 years.

โœจ Technical Specifications

The 2020 Tignanello is sourced from the estate's namesake vineyard in the Chianti Classico region, characterized by limestone- and marl-rich soils (alberese and galestro) at elevations of 350 to 400 meters. The blend consists of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The 2020 growing season was marked by a mild winter, a warm summer, and favorable diurnal temperature shifts in late summer, promoting balanced ripening. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels and was aged for approximately 14 to 16 months in a combination of French and Hungarian oak barrels, followed by an additional 12 months of bottle aging prior to release.

๐Ÿพ About the Producer

Marchesi Antinori is one of the world's most storied winemaking dynasties, tracing its commercial viticultural heritage to 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori matriculated into Florence's Arte dei Vinattieri. Spanning twenty-six generations, the family revolutionized modern Italian viticulture under Marchese Piero Antinori and legendary enologist Giacomo Tachis, catalyzing the Super Tuscan revolution with the pioneering release of Tignanello in 1971. Antinori commands an unrivaled tapestry of microclimates across Central Italy, encompassing the galestro and albarese marls of Chianti Classico at Tenuta Tignanello and Badia a Passignano, the maritime gravels of Bolgheri at Guado al Tasso, and the fossiliferous clay-limestone soils of Umbria at Castello della Sala. In the cellar, CEO and chief enologist Renzo Cotarella orchestrates a balance of precision, clonal selection, and judicious French oak barrique maturation. Antinori's benchmark winesโ€”including the Sangiovese-driven Tignanello, the Cabernet-dominated Solaia, and the benchmark Umbrian Chardonnay blend Cervaro della Salaโ€”stand as definitive monuments of Italian winemaking refinement.
