Villa Antinori Riserva represents a profound chapter in the legacy of the historic Antinori family, who have been crafting wine in Tuscany since 1385. First introduced by Marchese Niccolรฒ Antinori in 1928, the 'Villa Antinori' label was created with the revolutionary goal of producing a Tuscan red that could age gracefully and endure long journeys to international markets. Reintroduced in recent years as a Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, this wine is a masterful tribute to that original vision. It is crafted predominantly from Sangiovese, the signature grape of Tuscany, complemented by small portions of international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes are sourced from the family's finest estate vineyards across the Chianti Classico appellation. Following fermentation, the wine is aged in a combination of French, Hungarian, and American oak barriques and larger casks, resulting in a harmonious profile of ripe red cherries, wild berries, subtle spice, and elegant, structured tannins that reflect the stony, clay-limestone soils of the region.
๐พ About the Producer
Tracing its winemaking heritage back to 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Florentine Winemakers, Marchesi Antinori stands as one of the world's most enduring and influential wine dynasties. For more than twenty-six generations, the family has balanced deep reverence for Tuscan tradition with bold, pioneering innovation, most notably catalyzing the Super Tuscan revolution in the late 20th century. Based at their architecturally stunning headquarters in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, the estate oversees prestigious properties across Tuscany, Umbria, and beyond, with viticulture dedicated to capturing the distinct soul of each terroir. Today, led by Marchese Piero Antinori alongside his daughters Albiera, Allegra, and Alessia, the house produces iconic masterpieces including the legendary Sangiovese-Cabernet blend Tignanello, the opulent Solaia, and the benchmark Italian white Cervaro della Sala.
