✨ Technical Specifications
Steep, terraced schist slopes along the Douro River basin provide indigenous white varieties such as Malvasia Fina, Códega, and Rabigato for this fortified style. Following a brief period of skin contact and controlled fermentation to preserve stone fruit and floral aromatics, fermentation is arrested through the addition of neutral 77% ABV grape spirit (aguardente). Maturation occurs in seasoned oak vats and stainless steel tanks for an average of two to three years, retaining vibrant fruit character alongside delicate oxidative nuances of honey and toasted nuts.
🍾 About the Producer
Armilar is an exclusive private-label brand of Port wines produced and distributed primarily for the European discount supermarket chain Lidl. Originating from the demarcated Douro DOC in northern Portugal, the fruit for the Armilar range is sourced from regional growers cultivating classic indigenous varieties on steep, terraced schistous slopes. The wines are vinified, matured, and bottled through supply agreements with established Port shippers and lodge facilities headquartered in the historic aging quarter of Vila Nova de Gaia—traditionally associated with established Port wine houses like C. da Silva and the historic cellars on Rua do Choupelo. Spanning fundamental categories including White Port (Porto Branco), Ruby, Tawny, Late Bottled Vintage, and an acclaimed 10-Year-Old Tawny, the Armilar label delivers accessible, fault-free benchmark styles emphasizing bright stone fruit, citrus blossom, dried fig, warm baking spices, and balanced residual sweetness fortified by grape spirit.
