🍷 Vintage Profile
The 2023 growing season across the Peloponnese presented challenging conditions marked by intense heatwaves throughout July, followed by localized storms late in the summer. Assyrtiko grown at higher elevations managed to resist dehydration and retained its hallmark piercing natural acidity, though yields were naturally reduced to protect grape vitality. Rigorous organic canopy management mitigated heat stress, ensuring clean phenolic maturation and preserved aromatic purity devoid of baked notes. In 2026, the wine shows energetic tension alongside stony mineral complexity, positioned directly in its optimal drinking window with structural stamina to evolve through 2028.

✨ Technical Specifications
Grown in organically managed vineyards across the limestone- and clay-dominant soils of the Peloponnese, this Assyrtiko reflects the adaptation of the high-acid Aegean variety to continental elevation and moderating mountain winds. Vinified entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve pristine varietal character, the juice undergoes spontaneous or controlled fermentation followed by short maturation on fine lees without malolactic conversion, yielding a taut, mineral-focused white with pronounced maritime freshness.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 2007 by winemaker Michalis Athanasiou, Athanasiou Winery represents the modern evolution of a family viticultural heritage in Nemea dating back to 1855. Situated in Archaia Nemea within the northeastern Peloponnese, the estate tends organically farmed plots nestled across rolling hills and plateaus defined by limestone- and clay-rich soils, warm Mediterranean sunshine, and cooling mountain breezes. The domaine focuses on indigenous Greek varieties, prioritizing minimal cellar intervention and biological integrity. While acclaimed for its age-worthy, low-intervention Agiorgitiko bottlings such as the amphora-fermented Nemea Fysis, Athanasiou also crafts benchmark white wines, notably a taut, mineral-etched Assyrtiko showing crisp citrus, salinity, and volcanic-level tension adapted to the limestone terroirs of the Peloponnese.
