Averys of Bristol has a legendary relationship with the Douro Valley, dating back to the 19th century when the Avery family would travel to Portugal to select outstanding casks of Port to be shipped and matured in their historic Bristol cellars. The Special Reserve Port represents this classic merchant tradition. Sourced from premium vineyards in the rugged Cima Corgo subregion of the Douro, where schistous soils and steep terraced slopes bake under the intense Iberian sun, this wine is crafted from traditional Portuguese varieties. It is aged in seasoned oak casks to achieve a harmonious balance of rich, dark plum and blackberry fruit character, subtle spice, and a velvety structure. This bottling pays homage to the historic era of British wine merchants, representing the pinnacle of traditional blending artistry.

Averys blev grundlagt i Bristol i 1793 og hører til blandt Storbritanniens ældste og mest agtede vinhandlere og négociants. Gennem generationer har visionære personligheder som Ronald Avery og sønnen John Avery MW opbygget huset, der var blandt de første til at opdage og importere toneangivende vine direkte fra klassiske europæiske områder og fremadstormende oversøiske terroirs. Averys er berømt for sin historiske ekspertise inden for fadlagring og aftapning på egne kældre. I dag kuraterer og fremstiller huset en alsidig portefølje, der favner alt fra prestigefyldte bordeauxvine, bourgogne grand crus og champagne til årgangsportvin, madeira og udsøgt cognac.
