✨ Technical Specifications
Azelia's classic Barolo DOCG represents a masterful marriage of two distinct terroirs: the Tortonian soils of Castiglione Falletto, which bestow elegance, floral aromatics, and silkiness, and the Helvetian soils of Serralunga d'Alba, which contribute power, deep structure, and intense tannins. This cuvée is crafted from Nebbiolo vines averaging 45 years of age. The winemaking philosophy combines traditional large Slavonian oak casks with modern temperature-controlled fermentation, resulting in a wine that honors the historic soul of Piedmont. Historically, blending across communes was the traditional way Barolo was made, ensuring a harmonious balance between the feminine grace of Castiglione and the masculine strength of Serralunga.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1920 by Cavalier Lorenzo Scavino, Azelia is a renowned family-owned estate situated in Castiglione Falletto in the heart of Piedmont's Barolo region. Today, fourth-generation winemaker Luigi Scavino alongside his son Lorenzo continues the family tradition with a focus on sustainable viticulture, meticulously managing exceptional old vines across premier crus in both Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba. In the cellar, Azelia harmonizes traditional large oak cask aging with selective French barrique maturation to articulate each vineyard's unique microclimate and soil composition. The estate is celebrated for producing structured, profoundly elegant Barolo single-vineyard expressions, notably Bricco Fiasco, San Rocco, and Margheria, that epitomize the purity, longevity, and complexity of Nebbiolo.
