Hailing from the rugged, mountainous terrain of the Dão DOC, Aliança Tinto is a classic expression of one of Portugal's most historic wine regions. Sheltered by the Serra da Estrela, Caramulo, and Bussaco mountains, the vineyards are protected from both harsh Atlantic winds and extreme continental heat, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and preserve their natural acidity. This unique microclimate, combined with ancient granite soils, imparts a distinctive mineral elegance and freshness to the wine, often earning the Dão the title of 'the Burgundy of Portugal.' Crafted by Aliança (a historic house founded in 1927 and now part of the Bacalhôa family), this red wine is traditionally vinified to emphasize bright red fruit, subtle notes of pine forest, and smooth, approachable tannins, reflecting the authentic, rustic charm of the Portuguese countryside.

Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal blev grundlagt i 1922 under navnet João Pires & Filhos og har siden udviklet sig til en af Portugals mest betydningsfulde og nytænkende vinproducenter. Huset gennemgik en modernisering i 1970'erne og blev i 1998 overtaget af kunstmæcenen Comendador José Berardo. I dag omfatter koncernen historiske ejendomme som Quinta da Bacalhôa, Quinta do Carmo og Caves Aliança. Med omkring 1.200 hektar vinmarker fordelt over Península de Setúbal, Alentejo, Bairrada, Dão, Douro og Vinho Verde dyrker vinhuset både lokale og internationale druesorter. Terroiret spænder bredt – fra Setúbals ler- og kalkstensskråninger samt maritime sandjorde til Alentejos skiferholdige sletter. Vinavlen drives bæredygtigt under certificeringer såsom Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme (WASP). Under ledelse af chefønolog Francisco Antunes forener Bacalhôa klassisk kulturarv med moderne innovation i kælderen. Producenten er berømt for ikoniske cuvéer som den fadgærede Catarina, lagringsværdige Cabernet Sauvignon-blends fra Quinta da Bacalhôa, røde og hvide vine fra Quinta do Carmo, mousserende vine fra Aliança fremstillet efter den traditionelle metode samt sjældne, koncentrerede udgaver af Moscatel de Setúbal.
