Quinta do Carmo is an estate steeped in history, located near the historic town of Estremoz in the Alentejo region. Its origins date back to the 17th century when King João V gifted the property to a lady of the court. In modern times, the estate gained international renown through a landmark joint venture in 1992 between the owners and the prestigious Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), which introduced rigorous French winemaking techniques to the sun-drenched terroir of Alentejo. Now under the stewardship of Bacalhôa, Quinta do Carmo Tinto continues to represent the pinnacle of Alentejo elegance. The vineyard's unique terroir, characterized by clay-slate and schistose soils under the cooling influence of the Serra d'Ossa, yields grapes with exceptional concentration and freshness. The wine is traditionally fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and aged in French oak barrels, resulting in a sophisticated red that harmoniously balances rich dark fruit flavors with refined tannins and a persistent, mineral-tinged finish.

Det berømte vinhus har rødder tilbage til 1922, hvor det blev grundlagt under navnet João Pires & Filhos, inden det sidenhen blev omdøbt til Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal. Hovedsædet ligger i Vila Nogueira de Azeitão på Península de Setúbal. Vingården ejes i dag af Berardo-familien, som har udvidet aktiviteterne til Portugals ypperste vinregioner – herunder Douro, Dão, Bairrada og Alentejo.
