Hailing from the sun-drenched Península de Setúbal, Bacalhôa's Roxo Rosé is a tribute to one of Portugal's most precious and historically endangered grape varieties: Moscatel Roxo. Once on the brink of extinction in the mid-20th century due to its low yields and difficult cultivation, this rare, purple-skinned mutation of Moscatel was painstakingly revived by pioneering estates like Bacalhôa. The grapes are grown in clay-limestone soils cooled by Atlantic breezes, which helps preserve their vibrant acidity and intense aromatic profile. Unlike traditional sweet Moscatels, this rosé is crafted in a dry, elegant style. The winemaking process involves a short skin maceration to extract its delicate pale pink hue and complex floral and red-fruit aromas, followed by low-temperature fermentation in stainless steel to retain its signature freshness and exotic perfume.
