Established in Santiago de Cuba in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó, this spirit revolutionized the rum industry. Don Facundo pioneered charcoal filtration and purposeful aging in white oak barrels to create a smooth, light, and mixable white rum, departing from the harsh 'aguardientes' of the era. The famous bat logo on the label was inspired by the fruit bats nesting in the rafters of the original distillery, a symbol of good fortune and family unity. Following the Cuban Revolution, production transitioned to Puerto Rico, where it is crafted today at the massive Cataño distillery.
