Though classified under 'Other' as a distilled spirit, Bacardi Ron Superior (traditionally known as Carta Blanca) is one of the most historically significant rums in the world. Founded in Santiago de Cuba in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó, the brand revolutionized spirits production. Don Facundo pioneered the use of a single proprietary yeast strain, charcoal filtration, and purposeful aging in white oak barrels to transform what was once a harsh, fiery local drink into a smooth, elegant, and highly mixable white rum. The famous bat logo, chosen because fruit bats nested in the distillery rafters, represents brotherhood, self-confidence, and good fortune in Spanish and Taíno lore. Following the Cuban Revolution, Bacardi relocated its primary operations to Puerto Rico, where it is crafted today at the massive Cataño distillery, known as the 'Cathedral of Rum.' This spirit is characterized by its clean, dry profile with subtle notes of vanilla, almond, and fresh tropical fruit.
