Bacardi Superior is not a wine, but rather the world's most famous white rum, representing a monumental shift in spirits history. Created in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba, it pioneered a smooth, light profile that contrasted sharply with the harsh rums of the era. Don Facundo achieved this breakthrough by isolating a single proprietary strain of yeast from local sugarcane fields—still used today—and utilizing purposeful aging in white oak barrels followed by a proprietary charcoal filtration process to restore its crystal-clear appearance. The brand's legendary bat logo, chosen because fruit bats nested in the original distillery's rafters, represents good fortune, brotherhood, and resilience. Following the confiscation of the family's Cuban assets in 1960, production transitioned primarily to the massive Casa Bacardí facility in Cataño, Puerto Rico, known as the 'Cathedral of Rum,' where the traditional recipe and strict quality standards continue to be preserved.
