Hailing from the sun-drenched hills of southern Montalcino, Banfi's Colvecchio is a pioneering expression of Syrah in Tuscany. While Montalcino is world-renowned for Sangiovese, the Mariani family of Castello Banfi recognized the incredible potential of international varieties in their unique microclimate. Planted on the clay-limestone slopes of the Colvecchio vineyard, these Syrah vines benefit from hot days and cooling maritime breezes. The wine is crafted using Banfi's innovative 'Horizon' hybrid French oak and stainless-steel fermenters, followed by meticulous aging in French oak barriques. This process marries the grape's natural spicy, dark-fruit character with a refined, velvety structure, representing a bold, modern chapter in Tuscan winemaking history.

Banfi blev grundlagt i 1978 af de italiensk-amerikanske brødre John og Harry Mariani og har sit hjerte omkring den historiske middelalderfæstning Castello di Poggio alle Mura i toscanske Montalcino.
