Castello Banfi's Fontanelle is a pioneering expression of Tuscan Chardonnay, born from the estate's groundbreaking clonal research in the southern hills of Montalcino during the late 20th century. While Montalcino is world-renowned for its robust Sangiovese, Banfi sought to prove that its unique microclimate and complex soils, composed of clay, sand, and calcareous pebbles, could also nurture world-class white wines. Fontanelle is crafted entirely from Chardonnay grapes, fermented and aged in French oak barriques with regular battonage. This meticulous process imparts a luxurious texture, seamlessly blending vibrant tropical fruit and citrus aromas with elegant notes of vanilla, toasted hazelnut, and butterscotch, reflecting a harmonious marriage of French winemaking tradition and Tuscan sun.
