Castello Banfi, established in 1978 by the Italian-American Mariani brothers, revolutionized the Tuscan wine landscape from their estate in Montalcino. While famous for their Brunello, Banfi also pioneered the cultivation of international varieties in the region. Fumaio is a delightful expression of this innovative spirit, blending Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grown in the estate's hillside vineyards. The Chardonnay imparts roundness and tropical fruit notes, while the Sauvignon Blanc contributes vibrant acidity and fresh herbaceous aromas. Banfi blev grundlagt i 1978 af de italiensk-amerikanske brødre John og Harry Mariani og har sit hjerte omkring den historiske middelalderfæstning Castello di Poggio alle Mura i toscanske Montalcino.
