Baron Philippe de Rothschild's venture into Chile's Central Valley beautifully bridges Bordeaux tradition with South American terroir. This is epitomized by their Carmenere Reserva, a grape that was once a staple in Bordeaux before the phylloxera epidemic and was famously rediscovered in Chile in 1994 after being mistaken for Merlot for decades. Grown in the sun-drenched vineyards of the Central Valley, shielded by the majestic Andes, this wine benefits from a Mediterranean climate with significant diurnal temperature shifts. The winemakers employ traditional French techniques, carefully aging a portion of the blend in French oak barrels to soften the grape's natural pyrazines, resulting in a wine that balances rich black fruit with notes of cracked black pepper, roasted coffee, and subtle sweet spices.
