Established in 1725 by Irish merchant Thomas Barton and later joined by French partner Daniel Guestier, Barton & Guestier stands as the oldest active wine house in Bordeaux. While their roots are deeply tied to Bordeaux, this Merlot Reserve ventures south to the sun-drenched vineyards of the Pays d'Oc IGP in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Here, the Mediterranean climate—characterized by hot, dry summers and cooling sea breezes—allows the Merlot grape to achieve optimal ripeness. The wine is crafted to showcase the grape's naturally plush, fruit-forward character. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and subjected to short maceration to preserve fresh fruit aromas, a portion of the blend undergoes brief oak contact to add subtle structure and hints of spice. The result is a smooth, approachable red that reflects B&G's centuries-old blending expertise adapted to the vibrant terroir of Southern France.

Barton & Guestier blev grundlagt i 1725 af den irske købmand Thomas Barton og fik i 1802 selskab af Daniel Guestier. Huset bærer med stolthed titlen som det ældste aktive négociant-hus i Bordeaux. Med udgangspunkt i det historiske hovedsæde og uddannelsescenter på Château Magnol i Haut-Médoc råder huset over 30 hektar Cru Bourgeois-vinmarker, præget af grus- og sandet lerjord med certificeringerne Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE niveau 3) og ISO 14001. Under ledelse af chefvinmager Laurent Prada forener vinhuset klassisk Bordeaux-vinifikation med moderne kældermetoder i et tæt samarbejde med et stort netværk af lokale vinbønder. Barton & Guestier skaber toneangivende vine fra appellationer i både Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Rhône og Pays d'Oc. Husets signaturportefølje tæller blandt andet den lagringsdygtige Château Magnol Haut-Médoc, den eksklusive Thomas Barton Réserve-serie samt en række regionale sortsrene vine, der alle er skabt med fokus på terroirets renhed, en spændstig og klar frugt samt et elegant integreret fadpræg fra fransk eg.
