Hailing from the historic Bedrock Vineyard in the heart of Sonoma Valley, the Bedrock Vineyard Ancient-Vine Syrah is a liquid testament to California's rich viticultural history. Originally founded in 1854 by Generals William Tecumseh Sherman and N.B. Baker, and later replanted in 1888 by Senator George Hearst, this iconic vineyard is home to some of the oldest Syrah vines in the United States. Bedrock Wine Co. crafts this deep, soulful red from these ancient, deep-rooted vines, which yield tiny, intensely concentrated berries. Winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson MW employs traditional, low-intervention techniques, including a significant portion of whole-cluster fermentation and aging in French oak barrels. The resulting wine is remarkably complex, balancing dark fruit, cracked black pepper, savory olive tapenade, and a distinct smoky minerality that echoes the classic Hermitage style while retaining its unmistakable California sunshine.
