Planted in the 1890s, the ancient, own-rooted Carignan vines survive in deep, wind-blown Delhi blow-sand soils that look more like a beach than a typical vineyard. These sandy soils acted as a natural barrier against phylloxera, preserving these historic vines for over a century. Situated near the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers, the vineyard is swept by cool delta breezes that preserve the grape's natural acidity and prolong the growing season.
