Bedrock Wine Co.'s 'Ode to Lulu' is a heartfelt homage to the late Lulu Peyraud, the legendary matriarch of Domaine Tempier in Bandol, who championed the soulful potential of Mourvèdre-based rosé. Crafted primarily from ancient, own-rooted Mourvèdre vines planted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries—often sourced from the wind-swept, sandy soils of Contra Costa County—this wine is a masterclass in California's viticultural history. Unlike mass-produced modern rosés, this cuvée is crafted with serious intent, utilizing whole-cluster pressing and fermentation in neutral French oak and stainless steel. The result is a pale, copper-hued, and deeply textured rosé that balances vibrant citrus and stone fruit notes with a distinct mineral salinity and savory, herbal undertones reminiscent of Mediterranean garrigue.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 2007 by winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson MW, Bedrock Wine Co. is rooted in Sonoma, California, with a devoted mission to rehabilitate and preserve the state's historic old-vine vineyards. Operating out of the storied Bedrock Vineyard in Sonoma Valley—first planted in the mid-19th century—Twain-Peterson and partner Chris Cottrell champion California's viticultural heritage through minimalist, terroir-focused winemaking. The winery crafts energetic, site-expressive wines using classic heritage field blends alongside traditional varieties like Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. Renowned for vitality and authenticity, Bedrock's bottlings, particularly the iconic Bedrock Heritage and single-vineyard old-vine expressions, stand as vital benchmarks of historic California wine.
