Bedrock Wine Co.'s Papera Ranch Heritage Red is a liquid testament to Sonoma's rich viticultural history. Planted in 1934 by Celestino Papera, an Italian immigrant who saved his earnings from working in San Francisco's quarries, this historic vineyard lies in the cool-climate Russian River Valley. Surviving decades of agricultural shifts, the vineyard is planted on classic clay-loam soils that yield a remarkably bright, high-toned expression of old-vine heritage grapes. The blend is overwhelmingly dominated by ancient-vine Zinfandel, complemented by a small percentage of Carignan and other interplanted varieties. Bedrock utilizes minimal-intervention techniques, including native yeast fermentation and aging in mostly used French oak barrels, to allow the site's signature vibrant acidity, dark raspberry fruit, and exotic spice notes to shine through with elegance and structural definition.
