Sourced from the historic Wirz Vineyard in San Benito County's Cienega Valley, Bedrock Wine Co.'s 'Zweiter Zweieiiger Zwilling' (German for 'second fraternal twin') Riesling is a brilliant testament to California's old-vine potential. Planted in 1964 on own roots, these dry-farmed, head-trained vines thrive in decomposed granite and limestone soils under dramatic diurnal temperature swings. Winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson MW crafted this bottling as part of a 'twin' experiment, exploring how different cellar techniques can coax contrasting personalities from the exact same harvest. This 'second twin' typically undergoes a distinct fermentation path—often incorporating elements of skin contact, native yeast fermentation, and aging in neutral wood—resulting in a textured, deeply mineral, and aromatic white wine that challenges conventional domestic Riesling expectations.
