Established in 1876 by German brothers Jacob and Frederick Beringer, the estate is one of Napa's oldest continuously operating wineries. The Private Reserve program was initiated in 1977 by legendary winemaker Myron Nightingale, who sought to craft a Cabernet Sauvignon of unparalleled depth and complexity by sourcing the finest fruit from Beringer's premier estate vineyards, including the high-elevation sites of Howell Mountain (such as Steinhauer and Bancroft Ranch) and the historic valley floor vineyards. Typically composed of nearly 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this iconic bottling is aged for approximately 18 to 24 months in new French oak barrels. The result is a powerful, deeply concentrated wine characterized by rich dark fruit, structured tannins, and a signature touch of sweet oak spice, embodying the classic, opulent style of Napa Valley.
