Beringer's 'The Waymaker' is a bold red blend that pays homage to the pioneering spirit of founders Jacob and Frederick Beringer, who blazed a trail for California winemaking in the late 19th century. While Beringer is legendary for its Napa Valley roots, this expressive red blend ventures south to the rugged, sun-drenched terroir of Paso Robles on California's Central Coast. Typically anchored by Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, and often rounded out with Petite Sirah or Malbec, the wine reflects the dramatic diurnal temperature swings and calcareous soils of the region. The grapes are carefully selected and aged in French and American oak barrels to integrate the rich, dark fruit flavors with notes of baking spice, espresso, and velvety tannins, creating a seamless, approachable, yet structured wine.
