Hailing from the historic border town of Schweigen-Rechtenbach, this Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) is a masterclass in cross-border terroir. The vineyards here literally straddle the boundary between Germany's Pfalz and France's Alsace, a legacy of centuries of shifting borders. The vines dig deep into the region's prized Kalkmergel (limestone marl) soils, which impart a distinct, vibrant minerality and structural tension to the wine. Crafted with traditional methods, including partial aging in large, neutral oak casks alongside stainless steel, this Ortswein (village wine) strikes a perfect balance between rich, creamy texture and precise, refreshing acidity, capturing the unique Franco-German soul of its historic birthplace.

Weingut Bernhart ligger i Schweigen-Rechtenbach ved Pfalz' sydligste spids klos op ad den franske grænse. Det anerkendte familiedomæne er berømt for elegant at forene tyske og alsassiske vindyrkningstraditioner. Vingården ledes af Gerd Bernhart, som har været medlem af det prestigefyldte VDP siden 2004, og her skabes udtryksfulde, terroir-præcise vine fra historiske parceller, der strækker sig på tværs af landegrænsen, såsom Schweigener Sonnenberg.
