🍷 Vintage Profile
The 2013 growing season in Ribera del Duero was characterized by an unusually cold, wet spring that delayed budbreak and flowering, resulting in a historically late vegetative cycle. Cool summer conditions and intermittent autumn rains necessitated rigorous canopy management and strict sorting to counteract botrytis pressure and uneven ripening, favoring parcels at elevated altitudes with well-drained soils. This climatic profile yielded a fresher, more Atlantic-leaning expression of Tinta del País, distinguished by elevated natural acidity, moderate alcohol, and fine-grained, energetic tannins rather than overt opulence. Viewed internationally as an austere and challenging year, the 2013 is currently in its optimal plateau of maturity, showing resolved secondary nuance and best enjoyed through the late 2020s.

✨ Technical Specifications
Cultivated from bush-trained Tinta del País (Tempranillo) vines averaging 20 to 30 years old around La Horra and Roa, this cuvée captures the balance of Burgos' elevated plateau. Sitting between 800 and 840 meters elevation on poor sandy-clay soils with limestone subsoils, the fruit undergoes temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation in temperature-regulated stainless steel and large wooden vats with indigenous yeasts. The wine matures for approximately 12 to 14 months in oak barriques (approximately 80% French oak and 20% American oak, with around 20% to 25% new oak), delivering pure red and black fruit character paired with integrated, fine-grained tannins rather than overwhelming oak extraction.
🍾 About the Producer
Bodegas La Horra was established in 2009 as an ambitious joint venture between Rioja benchmark Bodegas RODA and the local grape-growing Balbás family in the historic Burgos sector of Ribera del Duero. Driven by an exhaustive multi-year geological and clonal research project, RODA sought a complementary high-altitude habitat for Tinta del País (Tempranillo). Situated between 800 and 870 meters above sea level, the estate's dry-farmed bush vines—ranging from 25 to over 70 years old—thrive in alternating layers of sand, clay, and limestone, buffered by diurnal temperature shifts that preserve natural acidity. Viticulture emphasizes strict organic and sustainable management, certified under Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection. In the cellar, vinification prioritizes indigenous yeasts, parcel-by-parcel fermentation in French oak vats and stainless steel, and measured maturation across selected French and American oak barriques. The resulting flagship cuvées, Corimbo and the old-vine Corimbo I, are celebrated for combining Ribera's brooding concentration with RODA's characteristic freshness, restraint, and polished texture.
