This historic bottling pays homage to Paul Renaudin, who co-founded the legendary Champagne house alongside Jacques Bollinger in 1829. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the house's Champagnes were frequently exported to the United Kingdom under the dual name 'Renaudin Bollinger,' with the 'Extra Quality Very Dry' designation becoming immensely popular among British high society and eventually earning a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria in 1884. This historic cuvée laid the stylistic foundation for what would become the house's signature dry, deeply structured, Pinot Noir-dominated style. Reflecting the classic Bollinger methodology, it relied heavily on fruit from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards in the Marne, utilizing traditional oak cask fermentation for the finest components and extended lees aging to develop a rich, complex, and biscuity profile.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Founded in 1829 in the historic village of Aÿ by Jacques Bollinger, Paul Renaudin, and Hennequin de Villermont, Champagne Bollinger is one of the region's most prestigious and fiercely independent family-owned houses. Renowned for its Pinot Noir-dominated blends and traditional production methods, Bollinger uniquely ferments its vintage wines in seasoned oak casks and maintains an extensive library of reserve wines aged in magnums under cork. The house's signature style is defined by its rich complexity, structure, and depth, best exemplified by legendary cuvées like Special Cuvée, La Grande Année, and the late-disgorged R.D. Additionally, Bollinger preserves a rare piece of viticultural history with its ungrafted, pre-phylloxera Pinot Noir vines used to produce the ultra-exclusive Vieilles Vignes Françaises.
