While Brokenwood is famously anchored in the Hunter Valley, their quest for the ultimate cool-climate Pinot Noir led them to the high-altitude slopes of the Orange region in New South Wales. The Forest Edge Vineyard, perched at approximately 800 meters above sea level on the volcanic soils of Mount Canobolas, provides the perfect chilly sanctuary for this temperamental grape. First planted in the late 1990s, this vineyard yields fruit with remarkable natural acidity and an intense aromatic profile. Brokenwood utilizes traditional open-pot fermenters and careful French oak maturation to craft a Pinot Noir that beautifully balances bright red cherry fruit with complex, savory forest-floor undertones, representing a superb expression of Australian cool-climate viticulture.
