While Brokenwood is anchored in the Hunter Valley, their exploration of premier Victorian terroirs led them to the Indigo Vineyard in the cool-climate region of Beechworth. Established in the granitic gravel and clay soils of the foothills of the Victorian Alps, the Indigo Vineyard provides an ideal home for Tempranillo. The combination of warm days and cool alpine nights allows the grapes to retain natural acidity while developing rich, savory flavor profiles. Brokenwood crafts this wine to highlight the grape's natural affinity for savory complexity, utilizing traditional fermentation techniques and aging in seasoned French oak to preserve the bright cherry fruit, earthy undertones, and dusty tannins characteristic of the site. It represents a beautiful marriage of Spanish tradition and modern Australian cool-climate viticulture.

Brokenwood Wines blev grundlagt i 1970 af Sydney-advokaterne Tony Albert og John Beeston samt den anerkendte vinkritiker James Halliday, og det hele startede på en beskeden parcel på 10 acres i Pokolbin i New South Wales' Hunter Valley. Gennem årtier har vingården under ledelse af den erfarne direktør og chefvinmager Iain Riggs udviklet sig fra et passioneret weekendprojekt til en af Australiens mest prestigefyldte og toneangivende producenter. Brokenwood arbejder ud fra en filosofi om præcis, minimalistisk vinfremstilling, hvor terroiret og den rene druesortskarakter får lov til at skinne igennem – både i frugten fra egne marker i Hunter Valley og i nøje udvalgte parceller fra andre dele af Australien.
