While Brokenwood's historic Maxwell Vineyard in the Hunter Valley is globally renowned for producing exceptional, long-lived Semillon, Brokenwood also crafts an acclaimed range of single-vineyard Chardonnays from premium, cool-climate sites across New South Wales and Victoria, such as Orange, Tumbarumba, and Beechworth. Brokenwood's Chardonnay style represents the modern Australian paradigm: moving away from heavy, over-oaked styles toward elegance, restraint, and vibrant acidity. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, utilizing wild yeast fermentations, French oak barriques, and lees stirring to build textural complexity and a creamy mouthfeel without overshadowing the pristine stone fruit and citrus characters.

Brokenwood Wines blev grundlagt i 1970 af Sydney-advokaterne Tony Albert og John Beeston samt den anerkendte vinkritiker James Halliday, og det hele startede på en beskeden parcel på 10 acres i Pokolbin i New South Wales' Hunter Valley. Gennem årtier har vingården under ledelse af den erfarne direktør og chefvinmager Iain Riggs udviklet sig fra et passioneret weekendprojekt til en af Australiens mest prestigefyldte og toneangivende producenter. Brokenwood arbejder ud fra en filosofi om præcis, minimalistisk vinfremstilling, hvor terroiret og den rene druesortskarakter får lov til at skinne igennem – både i frugten fra egne marker i Hunter Valley og i nøje udvalgte parceller fra andre dele af Australien.
