While Brokenwood is deeply rooted in the Hunter Valley, their quest for the perfect cool-climate Pinot Noir led them south to the premium vineyards of Victoria, notably the sub-alpine region of Beechworth. Recognizing that the Hunter's warm climate is unsuitable for this temperamental grape, Brokenwood's winemakers established long-term relationships with Victorian growers to craft a Pinot Noir that balances bright red fruit characters with savory complexity. The wine is typically fermented in open-top fermenters with a portion of whole bunches to add structure and spice, followed by maturation in French oak barriques. This expression represents Brokenwood's elegant, minimal-intervention approach adapted to Victoria's cool-climate terroirs.

Brokenwood Wines blev grundlagt i 1970 af Sydney-advokaterne Tony Albert og John Beeston samt den anerkendte vinkritiker James Halliday, og det hele startede på en beskeden parcel på 10 acres i Pokolbin i New South Wales' Hunter Valley. Gennem årtier har vingården under ledelse af den erfarne direktør og chefvinmager Iain Riggs udviklet sig fra et passioneret weekendprojekt til en af Australiens mest prestigefyldte og toneangivende producenter. Brokenwood arbejder ud fra en filosofi om præcis, minimalistisk vinfremstilling, hvor terroiret og den rene druesortskarakter får lov til at skinne igennem – både i frugten fra egne marker i Hunter Valley og i nøje udvalgte parceller fra andre dele af Australien. Huset har opnået international anerkendelse for især sine sprøde, lagringsværdige Semillon-vine fra Hunter Valley og flagskibet Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz, side om side med populære hverdagsklassikere som den ikoniske Cricket Pitch-serie.
