The Verona Vineyard, situated on Hermitage Road in the Pokolbin sub-region of the Hunter Valley, was planted in 1968. This historic site is renowned for its red clay loam soils, which impart a distinct mineral complexity and elegant structure to the Shiraz grapes grown here. Brokenwood's Verona Vineyard Shiraz is a classic representation of the traditional Hunter Valley style: medium-bodied, savory, and deeply aromatic. Unlike the heavier Shiraz styles of warmer Australian regions, the Verona Vineyard expression focuses on bright red fruits, earthiness, white pepper, and fine-grained, silky tannins. The wine is typically aged in French oak puncheons to preserve the pure, site-specific fruit character and vibrant acidity that defines this historic vineyard.
