This classic Tempranillo is crafted to showcase the pure, expressive character of Spain's noble grape. Sourced from vineyards across the three sub-regions of Rioja—Alta, Alavesa, and Oriental—the grapes benefit from a mix of clay, limestone, and alluvial soils. To preserve its lively red fruit profile, the wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel before a brief aging period of approximately four months in American oak barrels. Founded in 1959 by Riojan winemakers José Ortigüela and Bernardo Beristain, Campo Viejo has evolved into one of the defining global ambassadors of Rioja DOCa. Operating from an architecturally innovative subterranean facility on the outskirts of Logroño since 2001, the estate champions environmental responsibility as the first Spanish winery to achieve certified Carbon Neutral and Wineries for Climate Protection status. Grapes are cultivated across the three primary subregions of Rioja—Alta, Alavesa, and Oriental—capturing a heterogeneous mosaic of clay-limestone, alluvial, and ferruginous clay soils influenced by both Atlantic and Mediterranean mesoclimates. Masterfully orchestrating gravity-fed vinification, the cellar emphasizes vibrant fruit purity framed by classical oak aging.
