Captain Morgan Dark represents a legendary expression of Jamaican distilling heritage rather than a traditional grape wine. Named after the notorious 17th-century Welsh privateer Sir Henry Morgan, who eventually became the Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica, this dark rum is crafted from sugarcane molasses. It undergoes distillation in both continuous column and traditional pot stills before being aged in heavily charred American white oak barrels. This tropical aging process infuses the spirit with its signature deep mahogany hue, robust aromas of molasses, burnt sugar, and dried tropical fruits, alongside a smooth, spicy finish reminiscent of the Caribbean's rich maritime history.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1944 when the Seagram Company acquired the historic Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica, Captain Morgan has grown into one of the world's most iconic spirit brands, now owned by global leader Diageo. Named after the legendary 17th-century Welsh privateer Sir Henry Morgan, the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in a spiced rum recipe originally developed by a Kingston pharmacy run by the Levy brothers. While primary production has transitioned over the decades to modern facilities in the United States Virgin Islands, the brand's identity remains inextricably linked to its Jamaican origins and traditional Caribbean blending techniques. Captain Morgan is globally celebrated for its smooth, spice-infused profile, crafted using continuous distillation and aging in charred white oak barrels to produce signature expressions like Original Spiced Gold, Black Label, and Dark.
