Chateau Tanunda’s 'The Newcastle' is a masterful tribute to the traditional blends of the Southern Rhône, reimagined through the lens of the Barossa Valley’s ancient soils. The name itself evokes the pioneering heritage of early South Australian settlement and the historic trade connections of the region. Sourced from select vineyards across the Barossa, this blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Cinsault benefits from the region's warm climate and diverse terroirs. Winemakers employ traditional techniques, including open fermenters and gentle basket pressing, to preserve the bright, spicy red fruit character of the Grenache and Cinsault, while the Syrah and Mourvèdre provide structure, deep dark fruit notes, and savory complexity. The addition of Carignan brings a vibrant splash of acidity and rustic charm, resulting in a wine that is both historically resonant and delightfully contemporary.
