The Falkenlay parcel, whose name translates to 'Falcon's Cliff,' is a dramatic, steep-sloping sanctuary within the grand Marienburg vineyard of Pünderich. Here, wild falcons still nest in the sheer rock faces. This south-facing amphitheater is highly protected from cold winds, creating a warm microclimate where noble rot (botrytis) develops with exceptional purity and regularity. Guided by biodynamic principles, Clemens Busch coaxes an extraordinary expression of grey slate soil from these ancient vines. The grapes for this Auslese are meticulously hand-harvested in multiple passes to select only the most perfectly shriveled, botrytized berries. Fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts in traditional oak Fuder casks, the resulting wine is a masterclass in tension—balancing luscious, honeyed tropical fruit sweetness with a piercing, slate-driven acidity and a saline mineral finish that reflects its dramatic river-canyon origin.
