Falkenlay is a historic, steep-sloped parcel within the grand Pündericher Marienburg vineyard. Its name, translating to 'Falcon's Rock,' pays homage to the birds of prey nesting in the sheer grey-slate cliffs rising directly above the Mosel River. This dramatic topography, combined with the river's humidity, creates an ideal microclimate for morning mists and warm afternoon sun, perfectly fostering the development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). Clemens Busch, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in the region, coaxes extraordinary complexity from these botrytized grapes. The Beerenauslese is produced only in exceptional vintages through painstaking, berry-by-berry hand selection. Fermented slowly with indigenous yeasts, the wine achieves a sublime harmony, balancing luscious, honeyed concentration with the vibrant, mineral-laden acidity characteristic of Pünderich's unique slate terroir.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Located in the picturesque village of Pünderich in the Mosel region of Germany, Weingut Clemens Busch is a pioneering estate globally renowned for redefining Mosel Riesling through biodynamic viticulture. Clemens and Rita Busch took over the family estate in 1984, championing organic methods since 1986 and biodynamics since 2005 as members of Respekt Biodyn. The winery's production is deeply tied to the steep slopes of the Pündericher Marienburg vineyard, where they meticulously isolate parcels based on grey, red, and blue slate soils. Utilizing traditional large oak Fuder casks, spontaneous fermentation, and extended lees contact, they craft exceptionally precise, terroir-driven Rieslings, from bone-dry Grosses Gewächs expressions like Rothenpfad and Falkenlay to exquisitely concentrated noble sweet Auslese wines.
