✨ Technical Specifications
The Pündericher Marienburg Fahrlay Riesling Grosses Gewächs is a masterclass in terroir-driven winemaking, originating from a prized parcel within the legendary Marienburg vineyard. The name Marienburg itself pays homage to a historic 12th-century fortress and later convent that once stood high above the Mosel loop. Unlike other parts of the vineyard, the Fahrlay parcel is defined by its extremely hard, blue slate soils, which are notoriously difficult for vines to penetrate. Under the biodynamic stewardship of Clemens Busch, the old vines struggle through this rocky terrain, yielding tiny, highly concentrated berries. The wine is crafted with minimal intervention, undergoing spontaneous fermentation in traditional oak Fuder casks and resting on its lees. This patient process coaxes out a profound, smoky minerality, vibrant acidity, and a distinct salty finish that reflects the ancient blue slate beneath.
🍾 About the Producer
Situated in the picturesque village of Pünderich along the dramatic slopes of Germany's Middle Mosel, Weingut Clemens Busch has been led by Clemens and Rita Busch since taking over the historic family estate in the 1980s. Regarded as pioneering trailblazers of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the region, the estate is dedicated to natural, low-intervention winemaking that deeply respects the ecosystem. Their work centers around the legendary, south-facing Pündericher Marienburg hillside, where varying sub-parcels of gray, red, and blue slate are vinified separately to showcase pure terroir expression. Clemens Busch is internationally acclaimed for profound, textured, and mineral-driven dry Rieslings—most notably their Grosses Gewächs expressions like Fahrlay, Falkenlay, and Rothenpfad—alongside exquisite noble sweet and sparkling wines.
