Hailing from the dramatic, steep slopes of Pünderich in the Middle Mosel, Clemens Busch's 'Vom Roten Schiefer' (meaning 'from red slate') is a masterclass in soil-specific terroir. While the Mosel is famous for its blue and grey Devonian slate, a rare vein of iron-rich red slate runs through the Rothenpfad sector of the legendary Marienburg vineyard. This unique soil composition imparts a distinctively warm, spicy, and mineral-driven character to the Riesling, marked by notes of wild herbs and stone fruits. Crafted using biodynamic principles, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and aging in traditional large oak Fuder casks, this wine beautifully captures the tension between vibrant acidity and rich, textured minerality that defines the estate's artisanal philosophy.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Located in the picturesque village of Pünderich in the Mosel region of Germany, Weingut Clemens Busch is a pioneering estate globally renowned for redefining Mosel Riesling through biodynamic viticulture. Clemens and Rita Busch took over the family estate in 1984, championing organic methods since 1986 and biodynamics since 2005 as members of Respekt Biodyn. The winery's production is deeply tied to the steep slopes of the Pündericher Marienburg vineyard, where they meticulously isolate parcels based on grey, red, and blue slate soils. Utilizing traditional large oak Fuder casks, spontaneous fermentation, and extended lees contact, they craft exceptionally precise, terroir-driven Rieslings, from bone-dry Grosses Gewächs expressions like Rothenpfad and Falkenlay to exquisitely concentrated noble sweet Auslese wines.
