Released in 2017, 'No Name' is a landmark expression from the innovative blending house Compass Box, designed to let the sheer power of peat speak for itself without the distraction of a traditional name. This limited edition blended malt is a masterclass in smoky complexity, built around a massive, tarry, and intensely smoky single malt from Islay's south coast (Ardbeg), which makes up the vast majority of the recipe. To temper and layer this fierce peat, Compass Box blended in a portion of elegant, medicinal malt from another Islay distillery (Caol Ila), alongside a touch of waxy, fruity Clynelish malt and a proprietary Highland malt blend finished in heavily toasted French oak casks. The result is a beautifully structured, multi-dimensional dram that balances intense bonfire smoke, peat ash, and sea spray with delicate orchard fruits, vanilla, and rich baking spices.
