The Extinct Blends Quartet 'Ultramarine' is a masterful liquid homage to the rich, antique flavor profiles of late-20th-century deluxe blended Scotch whiskies. Created by the innovative blending house Compass Box, this expression is inspired by the iconic, heavy-girth, sherry-and-peat-inflected blends of yesteryear. It weaves together mature single malt whiskies—including ethereal, smoky Caol Ila—with exceptionally aged single grain whiskies from Cameronbridge and Girvan, matured in a combination of sherry butts and re-charred American oak casks. The result is a nostalgic, multi-layered tapestry of old-school peat, dried dark fruits, and rich, waxy toffee, capturing a bygone era of Scotch whisky production that is rarely encountered today.
