Hailing from the legendary Block 27 of the Peumo Vineyard in Chile's Cachapoal Valley, Concha y Toro's Terrunyo Carmenere is a benchmark expression of the nation's signature grape. The Peumo vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate where warm days are tempered by evening breezes from the Cachapoal River and the Pacific Ocean, allowing the late-ripening Carmenere to mature slowly and retain its vibrant acidity. The deep, clay-rich soils of Block 27 provide optimal water retention, preventing the water stress to which Carmenere is highly sensitive. This wine pays homage to the dramatic history of the variety, which was thought to be extinct following the 19th-century phylloxera epidemic in Europe, only to be rediscovered in Chile in 1994 when it was found masquerading as Merlot. Aged in French oak barrels, Terrunyo Block 27 is celebrated for its deep purple hue, velvety texture, and complex notes of dark plums, sweet spices, and graphite.

Viña Concha y Toro blev grundlagt i 1883 af Don Melchor de Concha y Toro og hans hustru Emiliana Subercaseaux. Vinhuset er i dag Chiles mest fremtrædende producent og en absolut hjørnesten i sydamerikansk vinhistorie. Hovedsædet ligger i Pirque i den historiske Maipo Valley, og ejendommens fundament blev lagt med ædle franske vinstokke hentet direkte fra Bordeaux. Siden har porteføljen bredt sig til Chiles bedste dale, lige fra Limarí til Peumo.
