โจ Technical Specifications
The Cooper's Hawk Lux Meritage represents the pinnacle of the winery's blending expertise, crafted as a tribute to the classic Bordeaux style. The term 'Meritage' itself carries a rich history, created in California during the 1980s by a group of winemakers seeking a name for high-quality, New World blends that utilized traditional Bordeaux grapes without relying on generic terms. Sourced from prestigious, sun-drenched vineyards across California, this premium bottling is meticulously assembled by the winemaking team. Each component variety is aged individually in select French oak barrels before the final blend is masterfully composed, resulting in a wine that balances the bold structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the plush, velvety texture of Merlot and the aromatic complexity of other classic blending partners.
๐พ About the Producer
Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurants was established in 2005 by entrepreneur Tim McEnery in Orland Park, Illinois, combining an upscale casual dining concept with an artisanal winery and tasting room. Rather than farming single-estate vineyards, the operation functions as a large-scale modern nรฉgociant and custom-crush producer, sourcing premium grapes and must primarily from leading American viticultural areas across California, Washington, and Oregon, as well as select international origins. Centralized vinification, blending, and barrel maturation take place at its dedicated Midwestern production facility under Vice President of Winemaking Rob Warren. The portfolio embraces an approachable, crowd-pleasing cellar philosophy focused on clean varietal expression, balanced oak integration, and food-friendly structures. Among its hallmark bottlings are California-sourced expressions such as Unoaked Chardonnay, Lux Chardonnay, Viognier, and the crisp, aromatic Riesling Gewรผrztraminer blend, alongside a diverse suite of methode-charmat sparkling and dessert offerings.
